Michelle Reed is a certified Pilates instructor with Pilates Instructor Academy in all-apparatus. She taught at three different Pilates studios in the U.S. before moving to beautiful Altea, Spain, which has her heart. Michelle is also trained in yoga, massage, and nutritional health coaching. She is the best-selling author of 6 books and is a former journalist and TV personality.
After two giant cysts in her spine temporarily paralyzed her, Michelle discovered that private Pilates Reformer sessions were the only thing that truly helped rehabilitate her. She went from learning to walk again, to private sessions, to group classes, and finally completed an arduous Pilates teacher training via Pilates Instructor Academy (500 hours) and mentoring with both Belleair Fitness and Pilates Grüp in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she later taught group classes and private sessions. While Michelle is obviously fluent in English, ella esta aprendiendo español and teaches students from around the world, so ALL are welcome!

Please note that private sessions are 50 minutes and equal to a personal training session with a qualified and experienced Pilates instructor (me Michelle-the M in Mpower! ) I don’t offer group classes at this time, but with the proper attention to your form, you will be able to help rehab from many types of injuries or as an athlete or sports enthusiast, take your training to the next level!
We focus on the core a lot, but Pilates Reformer training is a low impact spring assisted system that works your entire body! I include small weights and various accessories (magic circle, bands, jump board, etc.) to help you improve strength, balance and some stretches for flexibility.
Of course I ALWAYS focus on core Pilates principals and classical exercises, but what sets me apart I believe is that I offer a more contemporary, athletic approach to Pilates with ever changing choreography to challenge my clients as well as keep things fresh and interesting!

If you cannot find free parking in the neighborhood, there is a public lot behind the Ayuntamiento, the Tuesday parking lot (not on Tues. morning) and the Plaça del Esports free lot.
We are located near the Altea Ayuntamiento, down the side street between Santander Bank and Movistar, or behind the colorful changing stations on the playa, behind JT Ryokucha Sushi Restaurant. (Please see MAP below.) Once you arrive in front of Carrer Gabriel, 4, please hit the Floor 1 button so I can buzz you inside. Either take the elevator or stairs to Floor 1, and I will either greet you at the big brown door, or it will be ajar if I am still with another client, and you can go down the hall to the waiting room to the right until I am ready for you. I am in Room #5 at the end of the hall on the right, and there is a small sign next to my door. Please try to be quiet as we have a massage studio as our neighbor.
Please wear comfortable clothing, such as yoga pants/shorts or sweat pants, and "grip" socks if you have them. I have a "loaner" pair that I wash if you are coming in for a trial. If not, you can go barefoot so you don't slip and fall. Optional: Water (I have water bottles if you forget) and a towel.

The short answer is yes, but the longer answer is that any form of exercise must be performed alongside a healthy diet in order to be effective for weight loss. Pilates is great for improving strength and toning muscle (see Benefits of Pilates), but you can't "out exercise" a bad diet. I am a certified food coach, and I would be happy to discuss your food choices in a private session. Also, as we age, hormones can play a huge role in weight loss, so be sure to work with a hormone specialist if you are dieting and exercising and not noticing any weight loss. Ask me about using the "jump board" for more cardiovascular exercise and adding small weights for strength training along with the springs.
Please get cleared from your medical doctor to exercise before you begin. Discuss your specific injury with Michelle so we can discuss potential rehabilitation exercises.
Please cancel as soon as you possibly can if you are ill so as not to spread germs in the studio. It is also in your best interest to not exercise when you are not well.
Please do your best to cancel with at least a 24 hour notice. While we understand that life situations happen and encourage you not to come into the studio when sick, when you reserve a session it obviously keeps others from booking as well, and we want to serve as many people as possible in our community! Do try to let us know as soon as you are able to.
